Asterix and Obelix are celebrating their joint birthday party back in the Gaulish village - and some surprise guests have been invited Meanwhile, Julius Caesar has to deal with his old enemy Pompey,... This description may be from another edition of this product.
This book failed to deliver, but i'd still rate it highly because...no reason, i love Asterix. Caesar sends Panacea's impersonator to create havoc and the question of her marriage crops up. What? What about her husband Tragicomix? Don't ask. I'm fairly disappointed with this book.

Missed "Asterix and the Actress" when it came out. Pretty surprised reading it. Enjoyed it for the humour, the introduction of new characters & the exploration of Goscinny-era ones. Asterix #31 (2001) Asterix and Obelix are after the village folk, they've gone missing. Pompey is after Obelix, he's got Pompey's helmet. Julius Caesar is after Pompey, he can't stand rebellion in his empire. No girls are after Asterix and Obelix, though their Mums preferred if there were. Midst of this comes Panacea. She's got memory loss & only can remember Obelix... Gotten a low ranking so far. Sort of see why. Seems to work best as a stand alone story, set aside from the series, but knowledge of the past of the series is needed for gags & such. That's the trouble, I think. Fans who love Goscinny's humour from the 1960-70s seem to be the one's it's aimed at, seems so from the references, yet the humour is sparser & not quite the sort Goscinny fans enjoy. Reminds me more of Beano & of the movie "Asterix & Obelix Versus Caesar" (1999)

it wasn't that bad, u ppl sound like lawyers sent by Goscinny's daughter. i still like asterix and yes it is harder for Underzoto draw the pictures AND write the dialogue, so cut him some slack and show some support instead of ripping him to shreds during this "crisis."

This Asterix comic is an excellent story, bringing together many familiar characters from previous stories. The storyline is very funny, from trying to get Asterix and Obelix married off (not to each other), to the nagging wives, to the references to fish, to the appearances of old favourites like Tragicomix and Tremensdelirious. This particular version is trnaslated in the original style - with druid being named Getafix. In my humble opinion, the original translation style is the better. A highly recommend this to anyone who liked the original Asterix comics.

After 5 years...an Asterix! One full of surprises, what with Asterix and Obelix's parents suddenly making their appearance (apparently they had been living in Condatum all along). Definitely the best of the Uderzo-only efforts, and some of the Goscinny-Uderzo magic is back. Some good punning, though I dont know how he missed an obvious opportunity in the scene where Latraviata is presented an award for acting (Oh it looks just like my uncle oscarus!). There's no point in my recommending this book - you dont buy Asterix unless you grew up with it, and if you grew up with Asterix, you'd buy this anyway no matter what I say! That apart, a thoroughly enjoyable read. Keep 'em coming, Uderzo!
